You can’t help it, it’s like a magnetic force, as soon as someone announces they have a secret to share, everyone huddles in closer. Eager to find out what it is. Scared they’re going to miss out. Shhhhh…..I have a secret to tell you……..
One of my favorite websites would be Postsecret.com , I love it so much that I check it daily just to find out what secrets people -strangers- are sharing. It pulls me in, it’s almost like my little secret. I can’t help it. If you haven’t heard of this website before, go check it out. But, be warned, it is hard to leave. And, please don’t tell anyone else…..it’s our little secret…
Like the other day, when my friend rang me and left a message on my answer phone; “Quick” she said, “ring me back as soon as you can!” “There’s something I need to tell you, it’s a secret.” I spend the entire afternoon trying to ring her back, as the hours passed by I grew more frustrated I couldn’t get hold of her. Pretty soon it had consumed my thoughts for the rest of the afternoon, I was dying to know: WHAT WAS THE SECRET??
It was unbearable. Torture.
We all have secrets. Things we don’t want to share with anyone else. Most of us have little secrets, some of us big secrets. Little secrets you can deal with most of the time, big secrets you can’t. It can actually drive you crazy if you have a secret you can’t share with anyone else. The best way, in my experience, is to share the secret if you can. It does become more bearable when your not the only one carrying it.
So, that’s why I decided to compile a list of the little secrets in my life and share these with you;
I sneak lollies into the house. Yep, I tell my children they are not allowed lollies because they are bad for their teeth and health. But I still eat them (occasionally, ahum ahum), sneak them in the house and hide them so they won’t find them.
I pretend I need to go to the toilet, and sometimes, I even hide some where just so I can get 10 minutes of quiet, peace. (I do this at home and work)
When my mum rings up, I sometimes let it go to the answer phone so I don’t have to talk to her. (If you read this mum; love you!) I do this with some other people in my life too. (Thank goodness for caller ID)
I buy new things -clothes, shoes, stuff for the house- without telling my husband. Hey, what he doesn’t know, doesn’t hurt, right? ( I love you too honey)
I pretend I’m happy sometimes in front of my children when in actual fact, I’m sad or worried.
I apply self-tanner stuff on my legs and pretend it’s natural.
shhhhh, don’t tell anyone.
“Secrets can take many forms — they can be shocking, or silly, or soulful.” Frank Warren, the founder of PostSecret.com, shares some of the half-million secrets that strangers have mailed him on postcards. Fun video to watch through Ted.com;
