Make-Up: Would You Go Without It?

make-upAre you a woman that wears make-up every day?

Do you ever think about not wearing it? Would you be brave enough to go make-up free for one week?

Wearing make-up every day has become such a normal habit for me over the years. It’s part of my morning routine like brushing my teeth, having a shower or having a cup of coffee ( that last one is needed for survival). I just apply it every single day without thinking twice. Even when I sleep through my alarm clock or when my children are sick. I actually have to admit that I never leave the house without make-up on. Yep…you read that right; I never leave the house without make-up on.

There, I’ve admitted it, the secret is out.

Now, you are probably all thinking that I look perfect every day and that it takes me 30-45 minutes every morning to look perfect. But I have to disappoint you, I don’t look perfect every day (far from it on some days), I don’t wear a lot of make-up and it usually only takes me 3-5 minutes. Some days I only apply a little mascara and lipstick. Lipstick is probably the most imported make-up that I own, well I own at least 20 of them (I know, I know, kinda shocking eh)  I never ever leave the house without lipstick on. It’s a habit, like putting my shoes on, I just feel naked if I’m not wearing lipstick. Is that silly??

Maybe…

I do know that I’m not the only woman. According to Lovelyish.com, 1/3 of women wear makeup every single time they leave the house, even if it’s just to run an errand.They state;

“6 out of 10 women said they would never go to work with a bare face, and 1 out of 10 said they would never let their partner see them without face paint. Half of women said that they do feel better about themselves with some makeup on.”

Like myself, a lot of women don’t wear make-up to cover things up, it’s more to ‘enhance’ what they already have, to compliment your facial features. A little mascara to make your eyelashes longer, some blusher to give yourself some colour or a little concealer to cover some blemishes. And I guess it kinda feels like a security blanket. Without any make-up I feel exposed, perhaps vulnerable.

However, I had never put another thought into it. Until I read Pia’s article on Adiosbarbie.com the other day, she challenged herself to go for one week without make-up. She found that after a few days she was starting to feel more comfortable in her own skin and that others did not even notice she wasn’t wearing any. This got me thinking about my own face without make-up; would I be brave enough to try this? Would I be brave enough to leave my lipstick at home? Just thinking about it makes me sweat and my heart beat faster. How ridiculous, its not like I have to walk around nude all day? But it feels the same. Hmmm, I think that in itself says enough for me to take up the challenge….

With that said, I am going to be a little bit of a ‘chicken’ and start with one day of not wearing any make-up. I’m just not brave enough (yet) to go for an entire week. To be fair, I will make it a day during the week where I have to be out and about (school, work, shopping etc.)

What about you – would you be brave enough to go bare faced for one day?

Let me know your thoughts on this, I’m keen to find out what everyone thinks about this.

Happy Friday everyone!

Love,

Raquel :-)

I remember when my daughters friend gave up wearing make up for lent…..when the girls mom found out about this she had a fit and told her daughter she needed to wear make up so she would look pretty.

Oh Gosh, hopefully my daughters will not wear make-up for a long time, this is another reason I would like to go without to show them it’s not that important. It’s more important who you are on the inside;-)
Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.

I’m not into make up sis but I might as well to give it a try :)
As for your question I can go without it for a week since I’m not into it :)

Oh dear, I don’t think I would be brave enough as I do rely on my make up to feel and look good. Good on you for giving it a go, I’d be curious to find out how it turned out. I’m gonna browse through those links you provided.
